Greetings from the Hole....

so it's day four...and I just got the news that my reservation has been extended...here's a little recap of the last few days:

Because the steroids delivered with the antibiotics can increase your sugar, I have been getting regular fingerpricks.  Each finger has been pricked three times, so forgive the typing...  luckily, the steroids are being decreased today, so I can go off of the pricks and insulin shots

The cultures from my spinal tap are not growing - REALLY good sign that the meningitis is viral versus bacterial, but I am still being treated for 4 different strains of bacterial meningitis.  so at 6am, 12pm, 6pm and 12am, the iv's start and last for 4 hours, so I get a little break in between rounds

Last night my IV arm gave out.  The pain from the meds moving through my arm was unbearable, so they had to start a new line on the opposite arm (hitting a nerve that extended down into my wrist).  Much better, but the original arm is sore, swollen and still leaking - so disgusting!!

I just saw the doctor and he is sending the Infectious Disease doctor in for a consult...better to be safe..

There has been some good news from my oncologist...he does not see anything to suggest that the lymphoma has spread to the bone marrow, so we can finally table that concern...That's about all the news i have for now, still Quarantined and I've watched most of the decent movies, but i can usually find something on HGTV or a Law and Order rerun.

Thanks for al of the kind responses.  Sometimes they make me cry...I'm more than a little emotional cooped up in here by myself, but your comments, texts and emails are keeping me tuned in...thanks!  hopefully my next post will be from home!

If you could beat stage 4 cancer, you can handle this! We're all praying for you and for all of your family. I know the worry must wear them down too. Just started watching some new (older) shows you may want to tune into on your "vacation"- The Closer - Love it! and Mad Men. MAybe you can get the earlier season dvd's!

Heather - girl you are a rock! You handle everything thrown at you with grace, humor, and emotional stability (apparent, anyway :) ). Sorry you are stuck in the hospital and fighting this. Will be praying for you and hoping you escape soon. Hugs-Erin

Been thinking 'bout you a lot lately - remembering everything we went through with Elizabeth and even now, still ... 9 years cancer-free, every time she gets sick, I get a sinking feeling in my stomach.

I can't say I know how you feel but I do wish I could wave that magic wand (that I still haven't found) and make it all better.

Know that when I think of you I send up a prayer to the One who can. Much love.

I shall call you "bubble bell," unless you find that offensive....

Well dang, I guess a visit is still out of the question. For tv watching, I recommend Kitchen Nightmares (I think it's on CMT, oddly enough). It's like Restaurant Impossible, but with a lot more swearing. Well, bleeping. Gordon Ramsey, crabby British chef extraordinaire, finds equally crabby loser restaurant owners and tells them in no uncertain terms how to save themselves from bankruptcy. And if you're up at 2 am, Red Eye on Fox. An hour of Seinfeldesque, mostly conservative social commentary. Or something like that. Sorry, I've written a book here. Will you be able to have visitors at some point? I can pop in bearing Coke Zero in between my chauffeuring duties!!
